#28: Adopt a Family at Christmas

A lady at work had sent out an e-mail about getting people to pitch in to adopt a family from the Hope Haven Abused Women's Shelter.   The family was made up of a mother and her 9 year old son.   I can't even imagine the hopelessness a mother would feel to have run away from an abusive relationship with only what she could shove in a suitcase before she left.

Both the mother and the boy had made a list of things they would like for Christmas and we all signed up to buy those things.  I bought the mother some candles and the boy a K'nex set.  I hope that these gifts brought a little joy to the family this Christmas.  It really is amazing how giving to others can be so much more enjoyable than receiving!
